Why Isn't My Business Showing Up on Google?
If customers can't find your business on Google, a handful of common causes are usually responsible — and most are fixable.

It's one of the most frustrating questions a small business owner can ask: you have a website, you have a real business, and yet when you search for what you do, your competitors show up instead of you. This guide walks through the most common reasons — and what to do about each.
First, check whether Google has indexed your site
Before anything else, confirm Google actually knows your site exists. You can check by searching site:yourwebsite.com in Google. If no results come back, your site hasn't been indexed yet.

Common reasons your business doesn't show up
Most visibility problems fall into a few categories:
- Your site isn't indexed. Google hasn't crawled it, or a setting is blocking it.
- Your pages are thin. There's not enough useful content for Google to rank them confidently.
- You're competing against established sites. Newer sites take time to build trust.
- Your local listing is missing or weak. A Google Business Profile matters a lot for local queries.
- Technical issues block Google. Robots.txt rules, noindex tags, or slow loading can all hurt.
Local results vs. organic results
The map pack (local results) and the standard blue links (organic results) are two different systems. A business can rank well in one and poorly in the other. For nearby customers, the map pack is often what matters most.
